Oswego Community Comes Together to Help Sick Child
Posted by FitzGibbons Agency on
On July 20th, 2 Songbirds Presents and the Ancient Order of Hibernians will come together with nationally acclaimed artists, Hillbilly Casino, local musician Dave Hawthorn, and the community to help raise money for one very special little boy. Trevor Mercier, 8, was diagnosed with Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma when he was only four years old. After almost four years of being cancer-free, Trevor’s brain tumor returned in 2012. He is currently undergoing treatment every two weeks.
Trevor’s Rockabilly benefit will begin at 2 pm and will include food, a volleyball tournament, a local celebrity-dunking booth, and open mic before the concert event begins. Also, prize raffles and a 50/50 raffle will occur around 6pm, before the concert begins.
Jerritt Wahrendorf and Meghan Colliano, co-founders of 2 Songbirds Presents, said “ we knew late last year that we wanted to organize a benefit to raise money for a local family in need.” They heard about Trevor’s story from another parent whose child had cancer and decided to contact Trevor’s mother to see if they could help the family pay for treatments.
Despite being sick, Trevor is your typical 8-year-old boy. “He (Trevor) is heading into 4th grade,” said Wahrendorf. “He is an active child who loves to ride his bike, loves swimming and playing with his dog. He loves being outside when the weather is good. He loves to fish and be out at his grandmother’s place in Fair Haven. He loves school including his summer program that he is currently going to.”
The community has rallied around Trevor and over 30 local businesses have made donations to help make this benefit possible. Businesses have donated posters, raffle prizes, and funding to help organize and promote Trevor’s benefit. If you are or your business is interested in making donations for raffles and door prizes, please contact Jerritt Wahrendorf at 315-591-7837.
$10 tickets for chicken wings are available, as well as a $10 ticket for the concert. Event goers can also purchase a VIP ticket for $20, which includes: chicken wings, the concert, a signed concert poster, and a meet and greet with the members of Hillbilly Casino. All proceeds from the sales of the concert tickets go directly to Trevor to help pay for his medical expenses.
Advance tickets for Trevor’s Rockabilly Benefit are available at Greene’s Ale House, Midnight Sun, and the Woodchuck Saloon. Come join 2 Songbirds Presents on July 20th to help raise money for a brave child and show that “Being Charitable=Being Awesome.”
